Batik is the art of decorating cloth using wax and dye. To make a batik, selected areas of the cloth are blocked out by brushing or drawing hot wax over them, and then dying the cloth. The parts covered in wax block the dye, keeping the cloth its original color. The process of waxing and dying is repeated to create more elaborate and colorful designs. Once the final dying is complete, the wax is removed and the cloth is ready to be shown.
